Fernando Espinosa de los Monteros (Madrid, 1957) graduated as an architect in 1983 at the ETSA Madrid. Since the beginning of his career in subsidized housing has been one of the largest occupations to become one of the names of reference, as this type of projects within the profession. From the studios which he is a partner of, EMA and EME Group Architects has been involved in the creation of more than 15,000 homes.

On the other hand, the result of his passion for old architecture and heritage, his career is linked to the rehabilitation of historic buildings. Thus, it is responsible for a major refurbishment including the historic Palacio de Viana in Madrid (home of the Foreign Ministry), the Palacio del Infante Don Luis to Arenas de San Pedro (Ávila) or the Plaza Mayor de Trujillo (Cáceres).

A regular in discussion forums, the media and backed by its experience in the housing sector, Fernando Espinosa de los Monteros has been very critical of the design of new neighborhoods in Madrid: "... the PAU is misery in Madrid and any city. When you fly over Madrid and see a vast deserted plain where everything is concentrated more and more cranes and more buildings, your hearts just sinks. We are making some neighborhoods invisible (...) the only thing there are masses of buildings, all equal, where infrastructure is not taken into account. The neighborhoods are already old before opening. We are making inhospitable cities where finding a decent piece of architecture is a miracle, with the aggravation that are urban spaces that we will suffer the next 200 years.
